Umoja Women's Group Samburu

Umoja is a group of 40-50 women that came together to escape their abusive homes and created a women's village, going against the norms and culture. They have their own school that the children go to, with some of their kids even going to universities and returning to support the community.

"I came to UMOJA Women's Group to seek help because of domestic related violence. The women helped and accepted me as one of their own. I love our community because of the togetherness and sharing of ideas. Without the unity of a community, there is no development. I pray and hope for my children to receive a better education so that they may come back and help the community, as well as educate their peers. I love WMO2H for the water purification system and the introduction of greenhouse farming."
